The ASEAN Smoke-free Award (ASA) Launching and Forum was a hybrid event attended by 20 delegates in Bali, Indonesia with 94 tobacco control advocates & smoke-free coordinators joining through Zoom.
The Lead Country for the ASEAN Smoke-free Award is Lao PDR in cooperation with the Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance (SEATCA).
Speakers from the Ministry of Health (MOH) Lao PDR, SEATCA, WHO-WPRO & SEARO, MOH Malaysia, representatives from the cities of Balanga and Iloilo (Philippines were invited to share their experiences.
The ASEAN Smoke-free Award (ASA) aims to promote and sustain the “Towards a Smoke-free ASEAN” campaign towards reducing tobacco use and thereby encourage and support a healthy lifestyle for all ASEAN people.
WAYS FORWARD:
- Identification and organization of Country Assessment Teams (CAT) and orientation by the Smoke-free Country Coordinator (SCC) – May to June 2022
- Announcement of the ‘ASEAN Smoke-free Award’ Call for Nominations at the country level by the ASEAN Member States. – 31 May 2022 (World No Tobacco Day
- Distribution of nomination forms to interested cities by the SF Country Coordinator. (Deadline of submission at country level to be determined by the Country Assessment Team)
